ABOUT THE HOTEL

THE HISTORY
Hagfors Old Community House was built in 1926 and was situated only a few hundred meters from the place where the hotel is today.
Next to the Community House is a park that also belonged to the house. In the people's park a lot of famouse people have been performing throughout the years; Jerry Williams, Magnus Uggla and Ulf Lundell for example. In 1957 at the yearly event "Eldfesten" Monica Zetterlund was discovered by Ib Glindemanns orchestra. It was the beginning of her fantastic career. The park is still there owned by Hagfors Community but today there aren't any music event arranged in the park. The only buildning that is left from before is Parkserveringen (the restaurant) that was built 1930.

The 17th of April 1984 the Old Comunity House was demolished and the 30th of June the same year The New Community House including the Restaurant and Hotel Jonte was inaugurated. The construction of this house cost between 27-28 million crowns and at the opening there were several famous people performing;  Jerk Rysjö, Monica Zetterlund, Stefan Borsch and Christer Sjögren.

The name Jonte comes from a wooden figure made by Allan Salomonsson. He started making these figures in the 1970's. Jonte is a kind leprechaun who belongs to the little people. He became the mascot for the ski area of Värmullsåsen and gave name to two slopes. He also named the hotel and the restaurant at the New Community House. Today you can find a Värmullsjonte in almost every home in Hagfors. Allan passed away in 2010 so there aren't any new Jontes made but it still lives in everyone's memories. In the lobby at the hotel today there is a Jonte greeting all the guests.

The Community House Association who owned the whole building had a hard time getting the business going and finally the had to go bankrupt. In 1992 the restaurateur, Hans Mallwitz, started to rent the restaurant and the hotel. He also owned Uddeholms Hotell at that time but sold that hotel in 1996 to a man from Holland. Hans could then concentrate only on the hotel in Hagfors. He changed the hotel's name to Hagfors Hotell which was a better business name when marketing the area. In 17 years Hans operated Hagfors Hotell but in 2009 he got an offer to come back to Uddeholms Hotell to operate the restaurant. It was a Dutch couple, Erik and Loes, that owned Uddeholms hotell at that time.

Finally the Community house association sold the whole house to ABF who in the end of 2000 sold the business to Jan Björkrudh. Again the hotel's name was changed to Hotell Monica. Jan operated the house until 2013 when two employees, Maria Kvarnlöf and Anna Hultman, bought the house.
